Analysts Just Published A Bright New Outlook For iRobot Corporation's (NASDAQ:IRBT)
iRobot Corporation (NASDAQ:IRBT) shareholders will have a reason to smile today, with the analysts making substantial upgrades to this year's forecasts. The consensus statutory numbers for both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) increased, with their view clearly much more bullish on the company's business prospects.
Following the upgrade, the latest consensus from iRobot's six analysts is for revenues of US$1.6b in 2021, which would reflect a notable 15% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are anticipated to nosedive 62% to US$1.97 in the same period. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$1.5b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$1.06 in 2021. There has definitely been an improvement in perception recently, with the analysts substantially increasing both their earnings and revenue estimates.

With these upgrades, we're not surprised to see that the analysts have lifted their price target 38% to US$138 per share. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. Currently, the most bullish analyst values iRobot at US$166 per share, while the most bearish prices it at US$105. Analysts definitely have varying views on the business, but the spread of estimates is not wide enough in our view to suggest that extreme outcomes could await iRobot shareholders.
One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. We can infer from the latest estimates that forecasts expect a continuation of iRobot'shistorical trends, as next year's 15% revenue growth is roughly in line with 17% annual revenue growth over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to see their revenues grow 9.3% per year. So it's pretty clear that iRobot is forecast to grow substantially faster than its industry.
The Bottom Line
The biggest takeaway for us from these new estimates is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates, with improved earnings power expected for this year. They also upgraded their revenue estimates for this year, and sales are expected to grow faster than the wider market. Given that the consensus looks almost universally bullish, with a substantial increase to forecasts and a higher price target, iRobot could be worth investigating further.
