If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out ManTech International (NASDAQ:MANT) Before It's Too Late
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like ManTech International (NASDAQ:MANT). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

How Fast Is ManTech International Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So it's no surprise that some investors are more inclined to invest in profitable businesses. Over twelve months, ManTech International increased its EPS from US$3.21 to US$3.41. That amounts to a small improvement of 6.4%.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. ManTech International maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 3.0% to US$2.6b. That's progress.

Are ManTech International Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own ManTech International shares worth a considerable sum. Indeed, they have a glittering mountain of wealth invested in it, currently valued at US$965m. That equates to 33% of the company, making insiders powerful and aligned with other shareholders. Very encouraging.
Does ManTech International Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
One positive for ManTech International is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. If that's not enough on its own, there is also the rather notable levels of insider ownership. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. Don't forget that there may still be risks.
