Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At INNOVATE
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Interim Chief Executive Officer Paul Voigt for US$166k worth of shares, at about US$3.80 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$5.89. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. INNOVATE insiders own about US$50m worth of shares (which is 64% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
