Results: BWX Technologies, Inc. Beat Earnings Expectations And Analysts Now Have New Forecasts
As you might know, BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:BWXT) just kicked off its latest quarterly results with some very strong numbers. It was overall a positive result, with revenues beating expectations by 5.6% to hit US$682m. BWX Technologies reported statutory earnings per share (EPS) US$0.82, which was a notable 15% above what the analysts had forecast. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. We thought readers would find it interesting to see the analysts latest (statutory) post-earnings forecasts for next year.
Taking into account the latest results, the consensus forecast from BWX Technologies' eight analysts is for revenues of US$3.04b in 2025. This reflects a solid 9.3% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are predicted to expand 11% to US$3.50. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$3.03b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$3.49 in 2025. The consensus analysts don't seem to have seen anything in these results that would have changed their view on the business, given there's been no major change to their estimates.

It will come as no surprise then, to learn that the consensus price target is largely unchanged at US$135. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. There are some variant perceptions on BWX Technologies, with the most bullish analyst valuing it at US$166 and the most bearish at US$105 per share. Analysts definitely have varying views on the business, but the spread of estimates is not wide enough in our view to suggest that extreme outcomes could await BWX Technologies shareholders.
Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. It's clear from the latest estimates that BWX Technologies' rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with the forecast 13% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2025 noticeably faster than its historical growth of 6.4% p.a. over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 7.2% per year. Factoring in the forecast acceleration in revenue, it's pretty clear that BWX Technologies is expected to grow much faster than its industry.
The Bottom Line
The most obvious conclusion is that there's been no major change in the business' prospects in recent times, with the analysts holding their earnings forecasts steady, in line with previous estimates. Fortunately, they also reconfirmed their revenue numbers, suggesting that it's tracking in line with expectations. Additionally, our data suggests that revenue is expected to grow faster than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.
Keeping that in mind, we still think that the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for investors to consider. We have estimates - from multiple BWX Technologies analysts - going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here.
