Does Omega Flex (NASDAQ:OFLX) Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' Loss making companies can act like a sponge for capital - so investors should be cautious that they're not throwing good money after bad.
Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like Omega Flex (NASDAQ:OFLX). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

Omega Flex's Earnings Per Share Are Growing
The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so you'd expect share price to follow earnings per share (EPS) outcomes eventually. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. We can see that in the last three years Omega Flex grew its EPS by 7.6% per year. That might not be particularly high growth, but it does show that per-share earnings are moving steadily in the right direction.
It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Omega Flex maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 17% to US$130m. That's a real positive.

While profitability drives the upside, prudent investors always check the balance sheet, too.
Are Omega Flex Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Omega Flex insiders own a meaningful share of the business. In fact, they own 41% of the shares, making insiders a very influential shareholder group. This should be a welcoming sign for investors because it suggests that the people making the decisions are also impacted by their choices. And their holding is extremely valuable at the current share price, totalling US$481m. That means they have plenty of their own capital riding on the performance of the business!
It means a lot to see insiders invested in the business, but shareholders may be wondering if remuneration policies are in their best interest. Well, based on the CEO pay, you'd argue that they are indeed. The median total compensation for CEOs of companies similar in size to Omega Flex, with market caps between US$400m and US$1.6b, is around US$4.0m.
Omega Flex's CEO took home a total compensation package worth US$3.0m in the year leading up to December 2021. That is actually below the median for CEO's of similarly sized companies. While the level of CEO compensation shouldn't be the biggest factor in how the company is viewed, modest remuneration is a positive, because it suggests that the board keeps shareholder interests in mind. It can also be a sign of a culture of integrity, in a broader sense.
Should You Add Omega Flex To Your Watchlist?
One positive for Omega Flex is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. The growth of EPS may be the eye-catching headline for Omega Flex, but there's more to bring joy for shareholders. With a meaningful level of insider ownership, and reasonable CEO pay, a reasonable mind might conclude that this is one stock worth watching. What about risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for Omega Flex you should know about.
