Should You Review Recent Insider Transactions At Arcimoto, Inc. (NASDAQ:FUV)?
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Arcimoto, Inc. (NASDAQ:FUV).
What Is Insider Selling?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

Arcimoto Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The COO & Director, Terry Becker, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$520k worth of shares at a price of US$6.54 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$13.09). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 49% of Terry Becker's stake. Terry Becker was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership of Arcimoto
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Arcimoto insiders own 23% of the company, worth about US$103m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Arcimoto Insiders?
The fact that there have been no Arcimoto insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the Arcimoto insiders selling. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
