What Do The Returns At OPNET Technologies (GTSM:8034) Mean Going Forward?
If we want to find a potential multi-bagger, often there are underlying trends that can provide clues. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in OPNET Technologies' (GTSM:8034) returns on capital, so let's have a look.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for OPNET Technologies:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.13 = NT$81m ÷ (NT$710m - NT$71m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
Therefore, OPNET Technologies has an ROCE of 13%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 9.8% generated by the Communications industry.
