Yuanta Financial Holding's (TWSE:2885) Dividend Will Be Increased To NT$1.10
Yuanta Financial Holding Co., Ltd. (TWSE:2885) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 24th of July to NT$1.10. This takes the dividend yield to 3.2%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

Yuanta Financial Holding's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. Prior to this announcement, Yuanta Financial Holding's earnings easily covered the dividend, but free cash flows were negative. No cash flows could definitely make returning cash to shareholders difficult, or at least mean the balance sheet will come under pressure.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 17.0%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 44% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.
Dividend Volatility
While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of NT$0.568 in 2014 to the most recent total annual payment of NT$1.10. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 6.8% a year over that time. We like to see dividends have grown at a reasonable rate, but with at least one substantial cut in the payments, we're not certain this dividend stock would be ideal for someone intending to live on the income.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. Yuanta Financial Holding has impressed us by growing EPS at 10% per year over the past five years. The lack of cash flows does make us a bit cautious though, especially when it comes to the future of the dividend.
In Summary
Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Yuanta Financial Holding will make a great income stock. While Yuanta Financial Holding is earning enough to cover the payments, the cash flows are lacking. We would probably look elsewhere for an income investment.
Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. To that end, Yuanta Financial Holding has 2 warning signs (and 1 which shouldn't be ignored) we think you should know about.
