Further Upside For Doro AB (publ) (STO:DORO) Shares Could Introduce Price Risks After 32% Bounce

The Doro AB (publ) (STO:DORO) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 32%. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 80%.

Even after such a large jump in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Doro's price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 19.7x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the market in Sweden, where the median P/E ratio is around 21x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/E without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

Doro could be doing better as its earnings have been going backwards lately while most other companies have been seeing positive earnings growth. One possibility is that the P/E is moderate because investors think this poor earnings performance will turn around. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Is There Some Growth For Doro?

Doro's P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the market.

Taking a look back first, the company's earnings per share growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 21%. Regardless, EPS has managed to lift by a handy 5.0% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the earlier period of growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a good job of growing earnings over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the sole analyst covering the company suggest earnings should grow by 33% each year over the next three years. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 19% per year growth forecast for the broader market.

With this information, we find it interesting that Doro is trading at a fairly similar P/E to the market. Apparently some shareholders are skeptical of the forecasts and have been accepting lower selling prices.

The Final Word

Doro's stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/E level with the market. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-earnings ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

Our examination of Doro's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior earnings outlook isn't contributing to its P/E as much as we would have predicted. When we see a strong earnings outlook with faster-than-market growth, we assume potential risks are what might be placing pressure on the P/E ratio. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued, but investors seem to think future earnings could see some volatility.
