Logistea's (STO:LOGI A) Shareholders Should Assess Earnings With Caution
Logistea AB (publ)'s (STO:LOGI A) stock rose after it released a robust earnings report. Despite the strong profit numbers, we believe that there are some deeper issues which investors should look into.

In order to understand the potential for per share returns, it is essential to consider how much a company is diluting shareholders. In fact, Logistea increased the number of shares on issue by 235% over the last twelve months by issuing new shares. Therefore, each share now receives a smaller portion of profit. To talk about net income, without noticing earnings per share, is to be distracted by the big numbers while ignoring the smaller numbers that talk to per share value. You can see a chart of Logistea's EPS by clicking here.
A Look At The Impact Of Logistea's Dilution On Its Earnings Per Share (EPS)
You can see above that Logistea's profit is about the same as it was three years back. In contrast, its earnings per share is down 70% per year over the same period. The 138% increase in profit would have impressed many. On the other hand, earnings per share are only up 68% in the same time frame. And so, you can see quite clearly that dilution is having a rather significant impact on shareholders.
In the long term, earnings per share growth should beget share price growth. So Logistea shareholders will want to see that EPS figure continue to increase. However, if its profit increases while its earnings per share stay flat (or even fall) then shareholders might not see much benefit. For the ordinary retail shareholder, EPS is a great measure to check your hypothetical "share" of the company's profit.

How Do Unusual Items Influence Profit?
Finally, we should also consider the fact that unusual items boosted Logistea's net profit by kr92m over the last year. While we like to see profit increases, we tend to be a little more cautious when unusual items have made a big contribution. When we crunched the numbers on thousands of publicly listed companies, we found that a boost from unusual items in a given year is often not repeated the next year. And, after all, that's exactly what the accounting terminology implies. We can see that Logistea's positive unusual items were quite significant relative to its profit in the year to June 2024. As a result, we can surmise that the unusual items are making its statutory profit significantly stronger than it would otherwise be.
Our Take On Logistea's Profit Performance
In its last report Logistea benefitted from unusual items which boosted its profit, which could make the profit seem better than it really is on a sustainable basis. On top of that, the dilution means that its earnings per share performance is worse than its profit performance. For the reasons mentioned above, we think that a perfunctory glance at Logistea's statutory profits might make it look better than it really is on an underlying level. In light of this, if you'd like to do more analysis on the company, it's vital to be informed of the risks involved. For example, Logistea has 3 warning signs (and 2 which are a bit unpleasant) we think you should know about.
In this article we've looked at a number of factors that can impair the utility of profit numbers, and we've come away cautious. But there are plenty of other ways to inform your opinion of a company.
