One Polygiene Group AB (STO:POLYG) Analyst Just Cut Their EPS Forecasts

Market forces rained on the parade of Polygiene Group AB (STO:POLYG) shareholders today, when the covering analyst downgraded their forecasts for this year. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as the analyst factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.

Following the downgrade, the consensus from lone analyst covering Polygiene Group is for revenues of kr141m in 2023, implying a not inconsiderable 19% decline in sales compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are anticipated to crater 92% to kr0.05 in the same period. Before this latest update, the analyst had been forecasting revenues of kr195m and earnings per share (EPS) of kr0.69 in 2023. It looks like analyst sentiment has declined substantially, with a pretty serious reduction to revenue estimates and a pretty serious decline to earnings per share numbers as well.

One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 19% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2023. That is a notable change from historical growth of 26% over the last five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 11% annually for the foreseeable future. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - Polygiene Group is expected to lag the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest issue in the new estimates is that the analyst has reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds lay ahead for Polygiene Group. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and the latest forecasts imply the business will grow sales slower than the wider market. After a cut like that, investors could be forgiven for thinking the analyst is a lot more bearish on Polygiene Group, and a few readers might choose to steer clear of the stock.

Still, the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2025, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
