OM:EQT

Some EQT AB (publ) (STO:EQT) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that insider Edward Fitzgerald recently sold a substantial kr121m worth of stock at a price of kr345 per share. However, that sale only accounted for 2.0% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EQT

The Head of Real Assets' Advisory Teams, Lennart Blecher, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for kr148m worth of shares at a price of kr296 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of kr315. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 1.8% of Lennart Blecher's stake.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid kr1.3m for 3.75k shares. On the other hand they divested 1.68m shares, for kr491m. All up, insiders sold more shares in EQT than they bought, over the last year. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Does EQT Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. EQT insiders own 31% of the company, currently worth about kr115b based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
