Ferroamp AB (publ) (STO:FERRO) Held Back By Insufficient Growth Even After Shares Climb 31%
Those holding Ferroamp AB (publ) (STO:FERRO) shares would be relieved that the share price has rebounded 31% in the last thirty days, but it needs to keep going to repair the recent damage it has caused to investor portfolios. But the last month did very little to improve the 83% share price decline over the last year.
Although its price has surged higher, Ferroamp may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.7x, since almost half of all companies in the Electrical industry in Sweden have P/S ratios greater than 1.7x and even P/S higher than 4x are not unusual. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Ferroamp Has Been Performing
With revenue growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Ferroamp has been doing relatively well. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to dive, which has kept the P/S suppressed. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as Ferroamp's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 93%. This great performance means it was also able to deliver immense revenue growth over the last three years. Accordingly, shareholders would have been over the moon with those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the one analyst covering the company suggest revenue growth is heading into negative territory, declining 14% over the next year. With the industry predicted to deliver 156% growth, that's a disappointing outcome.
With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that Ferroamp's P/S is closely matching its industry peers. Nonetheless, there's no guarantee the P/S has reached a floor yet with revenue going in reverse. Even just maintaining these prices could be difficult to achieve as the weak outlook is weighing down the shares.
The Bottom Line On Ferroamp's P/S
The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift Ferroamp's P/S close to the industry median. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.
It's clear to see that Ferroamp maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its forecast for sliding revenue, as expected. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Unless these conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
