Electrolux Professional (STO:EPRO B) Is Increasing Its Dividend To SEK0.70
Electrolux Professional AB (publ) (STO:EPRO B) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 4th of May to SEK0.70. This takes the annual payment to 1.3% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.
While the dividend yield is important for income investors, it is also important to consider any large share price moves, as this will generally outweigh any gains from distributions. Investors will be pleased to see that Electrolux Professional's stock price has increased by 33% in the last 3 months, which is good for shareholders and can also explain a decrease in the dividend yield.

Electrolux Professional's Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. However, prior to this announcement, Electrolux Professional's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 46.1%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 20% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Electrolux Professional Is Still Building Its Track Record
It's not possible for us to make a backward looking judgement just based on a short payment history. This doesn't mean that the company can't pay a good dividend, but just that we want to wait until it can prove itself.
Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. Unfortunately things aren't as good as they seem. In the last five years, Electrolux Professional's earnings per share has shrunk at approximately 2.7% per annum. A modest decline in earnings isn't great, and it makes it quite unlikely that the dividend will grow in the future unless that trend can be reversed. It's not all bad news though, as the earnings are predicted to rise over the next 12 months - we would just be a bit cautious until this can turn into a longer term trend.
Our Thoughts On Electrolux Professional's Dividend
Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Electrolux Professional will make a great income stock. The company is generating plenty of cash, which could maintain the dividend for a while, but the track record hasn't been great. We don't think Electrolux Professional is a great stock to add to your portfolio if income is your focus.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
