Introducing Halwani Bros (TADAWUL:6001), The Stock That Zoomed 120% In The Last Year
Unfortunately, investing is risky - companies can and do go bankrupt. But if you pick the right business to buy shares in, you can make more than you can lose. For example, the Halwani Bros. Co. Ltd. (TADAWUL:6001) share price had more than doubled in just one year - up 120%. It is also impressive that the stock is up 60% over three years, adding to the sense that it is a real winner.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
Halwani Bros went from making a loss to reporting a profit, in the last year.
When a company is just on the edge of profitability it can be well worth considering other metrics in order to more precisely gauge growth (and therefore understand share price movements).
We are skeptical of the suggestion that the 1.6% dividend yield would entice buyers to the stock. However the year on year revenue growth of 21% would help. We do see some companies suppress earnings in order to accelerate revenue growth.

It is of course excellent to see how Halwani Bros has grown profits over the years, but the future is more important for shareholders. It might be well worthwhile taking a look at our free report on how its financial position has changed over time.
What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of Halwani Bros, it has a TSR of 125% for the last year. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
It's good to see that Halwani Bros has rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 125% in the last twelve months. Of course, that includes the dividend. That's better than the annualised return of 0.8% over half a decade, implying that the company is doing better recently. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important.
