Here's Why We Think MODE (WSE:MOE) Is Well Worth Watching

Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in MODE (WSE:MOE). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

MODE's Improving Profits

In a capitalist society capital chases profits, and that means share prices tend rise with earnings per share (EPS). So like the hint of a smile on a face that I love, growing EPS generally makes me look twice. You can imagine, then, that it almost knocked my socks off when I realized that MODE grew its EPS from zł0.03 to zł0.13, in one short year. Even though that growth rate is unlikely to be repeated, that looks like a breakout improvement. Could this be a sign that the business has reached an inflection point?

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. MODE shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 8.1% to 22%, and revenue is growing. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

MODE isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of zł13m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are MODE Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that MODE insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Indeed, with a collective holding of 61%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. Of course, MODE is a very small company, with a market cap of only zł13m. So despite a large proportional holding, insiders only have zł8.2m worth of stock. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!

Should You Add MODE To Your Watchlist?

MODE's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So to my mind MODE is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. However, before you get too excited we've discovered 3 warning signs for MODE (2 can't be ignored!) that you should be aware of.
