Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Caspar Asset Management (WSE:CSR). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Caspar Asset Management Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In business, though not in life, profits are a key measure of success; and share prices tend to reflect earnings per share (EPS). So like a ray of sunshine through a gap in the clouds, improving EPS is considered a good sign. You can imagine, then, that it almost knocked my socks off when I realized that Caspar Asset Management grew its EPS from zł3.65 to zł13.04, in one short year. Even though that growth rate is unlikely to be repeated, that looks like a breakout improvement. But the key is discerning whether something profound has changed, or if this is a just a one-off boost.

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. I note that Caspar Asset Management's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. Caspar Asset Management maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 125% to zł58m. That's progress.

Caspar Asset Management isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of zł187m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are Caspar Asset Management Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Caspar Asset Management insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 85% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. With that sort of holding, insiders have about zł160m riding on the stock, at current prices. That's nothing to sneeze at!

Should You Add Caspar Asset Management To Your Watchlist?

Caspar Asset Management's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Caspar Asset Management for a spot on your watchlist.
