Elopak Repeat Insider Selling Not A Positive Indicator

Elopak ASA (OB:ELO) shareholders might have a reason to worry after multiple insiders sold their shares over the last year. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Elopak

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive Vice President of Region Europe North & CIS, Stephen Naumann, for kr2.7m worth of shares, at about kr38.56 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of kr50.30. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 34% of Stephen Naumann's holding.

In the last year Elopak insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. So What Do The Elopak Insider Transactions Indicate?
