Okeanis Eco Tankers Corp. (OB:OET) Analysts Are More Bearish Than They Used To Be

The latest analyst coverage could presage a bad day for Okeanis Eco Tankers Corp. (OB:OET), with the analysts making across-the-board cuts to their statutory estimates that might leave shareholders a little shell-shocked. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as the analysts factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.

Following the latest downgrade, the five analysts covering Okeanis Eco Tankers provided consensus estimates of US$310m revenue in 2025, which would reflect a sizeable 22% decline on its sales over the past 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to shoot up 28% to US$4.65. Previously, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$359m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$5.60 in 2025. It looks like analyst sentiment has declined substantially, with a substantial drop in revenue estimates and a real cut to earnings per share numbers as well.

It'll come as no surprise then, to learn that the analysts have cut their price target 6.0% to US$36.25. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. The most optimistic Okeanis Eco Tankers analyst has a price target of US$43.33 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$32.04. Analysts definitely have varying views on the business, but the spread of estimates is not wide enough in our view to suggest that extreme outcomes could await Okeanis Eco Tankers shareholders.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 18% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2025. That is a notable change from historical growth of 19% over the last five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the industry are forecast to see their revenue decline 4.7% annually for the foreseeable future. The forecasts do look bearish for Okeanis Eco Tankers, since they're expecting it to shrink faster than the industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest issue in the new estimates is that analysts have reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds lay ahead for Okeanis Eco Tankers. Unfortunately they also cut their revenue estimates for next year, and they expect sales to lag the wider market. That said, earnings per share are more important for creating value for shareholders. Given the scope of the downgrades, it would not be a surprise to see the market become more wary of the business.

Unfortunately, the earnings downgrade - if accurate - may also place pressure on Okeanis Eco Tankers' mountain of debt, which could lead to some belt tightening for shareholders.
