Looking at Prosus N.V.'s (AMS:PRX ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net buyers. That is, there were more number of shares purchased by insiders than there were sold.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Prosus Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CFO, Financial Director & Executive Director Vasileios Sgourdos made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €154k worth of shares at a price of €62.89 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is €67.22. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. The good news for Prosus share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. Vasileios Sgourdos was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of Prosus

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Prosus insiders own 1.1% of the company, worth about €910m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
