Insiders were net sellers of IMCD N.V.'s (AMS:IMCD ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

IMCD Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The CFO & Member of Management Board, Hans J. Kooijmans, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €681k worth of shares at a price of €147 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is €130. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Hans J. Kooijmans was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. IMCD insiders own 1.7% of the company, currently worth about €128m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About IMCD Insiders?
The fact that there have been no IMCD insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of IMCD insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. To assist with this, we've discovered 1 warning sign that you should run your eye over to get a better picture of IMCD.
