From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Aalberts N.V.'s (AMS:AALB ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Aalberts Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CFO & Member of Management Board, Arno Monincx, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €493k worth of shares at a price of €42.39 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is €34.10. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Arno Monincx.

Arno Monincx ditched 21.64k shares over the year. The average price per share was €43.43. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Aalberts insiders own 8.0% of the company, worth about €302m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Do The Aalberts Insider Transactions Indicate?

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. While we feel good about high insider ownership of Aalberts, we can't say the same about the selling of shares. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. For example - Aalberts has 1 warning sign we think you should be aware of.

For the purposes of this article, insiders are those individuals who report their transactions to the relevant regulatory body. We currently account for open market transactions and private dispositions of direct interests only, but not derivative transactions or indirect interests.
