Innometry's (KOSDAQ:302430) Returns Have Hit A Wall

Finding a business that has the potential to grow substantially is not easy, but it is possible if we look at a few key financial metrics. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. Basically this means that a company has profitable initiatives that it can continue to reinvest in, which is a trait of a compounding machine. That's why when we briefly looked at Innometry's (KOSDAQ:302430) ROCE trend, we were pretty happy with what we saw.

Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)

For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on Innometry is:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.13 = ₩8.8b ÷ (₩85b - ₩19b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to March 2024).

Thus, Innometry has an ROCE of 13%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 6.9% generated by the Electronic industry.

What The Trend Of ROCE Can Tell Us

While the current returns on capital are decent, they haven't changed much. The company has consistently earned 13% for the last five years, and the capital employed within the business has risen 37% in that time. Since 13% is a moderate ROCE though, it's good to see a business can continue to reinvest at these decent rates of return. Over long periods of time, returns like these might not be too exciting, but with consistency they can pay off in terms of share price returns.

The Key Takeaway

To sum it up, Innometry has simply been reinvesting capital steadily, at those decent rates of return. Yet over the last five years the stock has declined 28%, so the decline might provide an opening. For that reason, savvy investors might want to look further into this company in case it's a prime investment.

Innometry does come with some risks though, we found 2 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those is concerning...
