Not Many Are Piling Into Xavis Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:254120) Stock Yet As It Plummets 26%

Unfortunately for some shareholders, the Xavis Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:254120) share price has dived 26% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 30% in that time.

In spite of the heavy fall in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Xavis' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Electronic industry in Korea, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.6x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

What Does Xavis' P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Xavis certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to wane, which has kept the share price, and thus the P/S ratio, from rising. If that doesn't eventuate, then existing shareholders have reason to be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for Xavis, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like Xavis' to be considered reasonable.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 101% last year. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 234% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 6.4%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring

With this information, we find it interesting that Xavis is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.

The Key Takeaway

With its share price dropping off a cliff, the P/S for Xavis looks to be in line with the rest of the Electronic industry. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.

To our surprise, Xavis revealed its three-year revenue trends aren't contributing to its P/S as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current industry expectations. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to see the likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.

You always need to take note of risks, for example - Xavis has 1 warning sign we think you should be aware of.
