LabGenomics (KOSDAQ:084650) delivers shareholders strong 26% CAGR over 5 years, surging 11% in the last week alone
While LabGenomics Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:084650) shareholders are probably generally happy, the stock hasn't had particularly good run recently, with the share price falling 21% in the last quarter. But in stark contrast, the returns over the last half decade have impressed. It's fair to say most would be happy with 207% the gain in that time. Generally speaking the long term returns will give you a better idea of business quality than short periods can. Ultimately business performance will determine whether the stock price continues the positive long term trend. Unfortunately not all shareholders will have held it for the long term, so spare a thought for those caught in the 34% decline over the last twelve months.
On the back of a solid 7-day performance, let's check what role the company's fundamentals have played in driving long term shareholder returns.

To paraphrase Benjamin Graham: Over the short term the market is a voting machine, but over the long term it's a weighing machine. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
LabGenomics' earnings per share are down 25% per year, despite strong share price performance over five years.
Essentially, it doesn't seem likely that investors are focused on EPS. Since the change in EPS doesn't seem to correlate with the change in share price, it's worth taking a look at other metrics.
The revenue reduction of 0.9% per year is not a positive. So it seems one might have to take closer look at earnings and revenue trends to see how they might influence the share price.

What About The Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?
We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between LabGenomics' total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. Arguably the TSR is a more complete return calculation because it accounts for the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested), along with the hypothetical value of any discounted capital that have been offered to shareholders. LabGenomics' TSR of 216% for the 5 years exceeded its share price return, because it has paid dividends.
A Different Perspective
We regret to report that LabGenomics shareholders are down 34% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 9.5%. Having said that, it's inevitable that some stocks will be oversold in a falling market. The key is to keep your eyes on the fundamental developments. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 26% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Take risks, for example - LabGenomics has 2 warning signs (and 1 which is significant) we think you should know about.
