MNtech Co., Ltd.'s (KOSDAQ:095500) Shares Climb 25% But Its Business Is Yet to Catch Up
MNtech Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:095500) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 25% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Not all shareholders will be feeling jubilant, since the share price is still down a very disappointing 29% in the last twelve months.
Even after such a large jump in price, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about MNtech's P/S ratio of 0.5x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Chemicals industry in Korea is also close to 0.7x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How MNtech Has Been Performing
Revenue has risen firmly for MNtech recently, which is pleasing to see. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to only keep up with the broader industry, which has keeping the P/S in line with expectations. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.
Although there are no analyst estimates available for MNtech, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow. What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The P/S?
The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like MNtech's is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 20%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 45% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenue over that time.
Comparing the recent medium-term revenue trends against the industry's one-year growth forecast of 28% shows it's noticeably less attractive.
In light of this, it's curious that MNtech's P/S sits in line with the majority of other companies. Apparently many investors in the company are less bearish than recent times would indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. Maintaining these prices will be difficult to achieve as a continuation of recent revenue trends is likely to weigh down the shares eventually.
What Does MNtech's P/S Mean For Investors?
Its shares have lifted substantially and now MNtech's P/S is back within range of the industry median. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
We've established that MNtech's average P/S is a bit surprising since its recent three-year growth is lower than the wider industry forecast. Right now we are uncomfortable with the P/S as this revenue performance isn't likely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, it's hard to accept the current share price as fair value.
