It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Korea Alcohol Industrial (KOSDAQ:017890). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

How Fast Is Korea Alcohol Industrial Growing?

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. Who among us would not applaud Korea Alcohol Industrial's stratospheric annual EPS growth of 38%, compound, over the last three years? Growth that fast may well be fleeting, but like a lotus blooming from a murky pond, it sparks joy for the wary stock pickers.

I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). The good news is that Korea Alcohol Industrial is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 3.7 percentage points to 15%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Korea Alcohol Industrial Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. So it is good to see that Korea Alcohol Industrial insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. To be specific, they have ₩20b worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Those holdings account for over 7.4% of the company; visible skin in the game.

Does Korea Alcohol Industrial Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

Korea Alcohol Industrial's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So to my mind Korea Alcohol Industrial is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. While we've looked at the quality of the earnings, we haven't yet done any work to value the stock. So if you like to buy cheap, you may want to check if Korea Alcohol Industrial is trading on a high P/E or a low P/E, relative to its industry.
