Cosmax (KRX:192820) Might Have The Makings Of A Multi-Bagger
There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. So when we looked at Cosmax (KRX:192820) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Cosmax:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.19 = ₩157b ÷ (₩1.8t - ₩966b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).
So, Cosmax has an ROCE of 19%. In absolute terms, that's a satisfactory return, but compared to the Personal Products industry average of 7.8% it's much better.

The Trend Of ROCE
Cosmax is displaying some positive trends. Over the last five years, returns on capital employed have risen substantially to 19%. The company is effectively making more money per dollar of capital used, and it's worth noting that the amount of capital has increased too, by 74%. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at Cosmax thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.
Another thing to note, Cosmax has a high ratio of current liabilities to total assets of 54%. This effectively means that suppliers (or short-term creditors) are funding a large portion of the business, so just be aware that this can introduce some elements of risk. Ideally we'd like to see this reduce as that would mean fewer obligations bearing risks.
The Bottom Line
A company that is growing its returns on capital and can consistently reinvest in itself is a highly sought after trait, and that's what Cosmax has. And with a respectable 92% awarded to those who held the stock over the last five years, you could argue that these developments are starting to get the attention they deserve. In light of that, we think it's worth looking further into this stock because if Cosmax can keep these trends up, it could have a bright future ahead.
Like most companies, Cosmax does come with some risks, and we've found 2 warning signs that you should be aware of.
