CS Holdings (KRX:000590) Share Prices Have Dropped 24% In The Last Three Years
While it may not be enough for some shareholders, we think it is good to see the CS Holdings Co., Ltd. (KRX:000590) share price up 14% in a single quarter. But that cannot eclipse the less-than-impressive returns over the last three years. After all, the share price is down 24% in the last three years, significantly under-performing the market.

In his essay The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville Warren Buffett described how share prices do not always rationally reflect the value of a business. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
During the unfortunate three years of share price decline, CS Holdings actually saw its earnings per share (EPS) improve by 11% per year. Given the share price reaction, one might suspect that EPS is not a good guide to the business performance during the period (perhaps due to a one-off loss or gain). Or else the company was over-hyped in the past, and so its growth has disappointed.
It's worth taking a look at other metrics, because the EPS growth doesn't seem to match with the falling share price.
With a rather small yield of just 0.8% we doubt that the stock's share price is based on its dividend. We note that, in three years, revenue has actually grown at a 5.5% annual rate, so that doesn't seem to be a reason to sell shares. It's probably worth investigating CS Holdings further; while we may be missing something on this analysis, there might also be an opportunity.

A Different Perspective
CS Holdings shareholders gained a total return of 7.1% during the year. But that return falls short of the market. On the bright side, that's still a gain, and it is certainly better than the yearly loss of about 3% endured over half a decade. So this might be a sign the business has turned its fortunes around. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 3 warning signs with CS Holdings (at least 1 which doesn't sit too well with us) , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
