Nippon Signal (TSE:6741) Is Due To Pay A Dividend Of ¥13.00
The board of Nippon Signal Co., Ltd. (TSE:6741) has announced that it will pay a dividend on the 2nd of December, with investors receiving ¥13.00 per share. This takes the dividend yield to 3.6%, which shareholders will be pleased with.
Nippon Signal's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable. However, prior to this announcement, Nippon Signal's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 1.6%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 37%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Nippon Signal Has A Solid Track Record
The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ¥18.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥43.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 9.1% per annum over that time. The dividend has been growing very nicely for a number of years, and has given its shareholders some nice income in their portfolios.
Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Earnings per share has been crawling upwards at 2.9% per year. While EPS growth is quite low, Nippon Signal has the option to increase the payout ratio to return more cash to shareholders.
Nippon Signal Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable.
