Quantum computing breakthrough puts Fujitsu (TSE:6702) in focus
Attention on Fujitsu (TSE:6702) has picked up after the company and the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology at The University of Osaka unveiled a quantum computing technology aimed at practical chemical material design.
The partners combined version 3 of Fujitsu’s STAR architecture with a new molecular model optimization technique to cut computational resource requirements for energy calculations used in material design, including catalyst molecules.
According to the announcement, the technology is intended for early fault tolerant quantum computing and is expected to support applications across drug discovery, ammonia synthesis efficiency, carbon recycling and other industrial fields such as new materials and finance.

The quantum computing announcement lands after a choppy period for the stock, with a 2.77% 1 day share price return and 5.45% 7 day share price return contrasting with a 9.18% 1 month and 23.49% 3 month share price decline. At the same time, a 1 year total shareholder return of 27.67% and 3 year and 5 year total shareholder returns close to doubling suggest longer term momentum has remained strong.

Most Popular Narrative: 28.7% Undervalued
At a last close of ¥3,345 against a narrative fair value of ¥4,689, Fujitsu is framed as materially cheaper than the story implied by consensus expectations.
Substantial growth in modernization and Uvance businesses (modernization revenue up 44% YoY, Uvance revenue up 52% YoY, Uvance now 29% of segment sales), reflects successful transition away from legacy hardware towards high-margin, recurring cloud, consulting, and advanced IT services, which should structurally lift net margins.
Want to see what sits behind that margin story? The narrative leans on measured revenue expansion, firmer profitability, and a richer earnings multiple than the broader IT sector. Curious which assumptions really carry the fair value?
