WITZ's (TSE:4440) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's
The board of WITZ Corporation (TSE:4440) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥15.00 on the 1st of December, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This makes the dividend yield about the same as the industry average at 1.2%.
WITZ's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
We aren't too impressed by dividend yields unless they can be sustained over time. However, prior to this announcement, WITZ's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share could rise by 10.2% over the next year if the trend from the last few years continues. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 16% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

WITZ Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
WITZ's dividend has been pretty stable for a little while now, but we will continue to be cautious until it has been demonstrated for a few more years. Since 2019, the annual payment back then was ¥3.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥15.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 31% per annum over that time. WITZ has been growing its dividend quite rapidly, which is exciting. However, the short payment history makes us question whether this performance will persist across a full market cycle.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. It's encouraging to see that WITZ has been growing its earnings per share at 10% a year over the past five years. A low payout ratio and decent growth suggests that the company is reinvesting well, and it also has plenty of room to increase the dividend over time.
WITZ Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one.
