There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. So on that note, ULVAC (TSE:6728) looks quite promising in regards to its trends of return on capital.

What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?

For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for ULVAC:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.13 = JP¥35b ÷ (JP¥383b - JP¥110b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2024).

Therefore, ULVAC has an ROCE of 13%. That's a relatively normal return on capital, and it's around the 12% generated by the Semiconductor industry.
