RS Technologies' (TSE:3445) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's
RS Technologies Co., Ltd. (TSE:3445) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 12th of March to ¥35.00. Based on this payment, the dividend yield for the company will be 1.2%, which is fairly typical for the industry.

RS Technologies' Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings
We aren't too impressed by dividend yields unless they can be sustained over time. However, RS Technologies' earnings easily cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 10.8%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 14%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
RS Technologies Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
Even though the company has been paying a consistent dividend for a while, we would like to see a few more years before we feel comfortable relying on it. Since 2017, the dividend has gone from ¥1.25 total annually to ¥35.00. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 61% over that duration. It is always nice to see strong dividend growth, but with such a short payment history we wouldn't be inclined to rely on it until a longer track record can be developed.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. RS Technologies has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 13% per annum. A low payout ratio and decent growth suggests that the company is reinvesting well, and it also has plenty of room to increase the dividend over time.
We Really Like RS Technologies' Dividend
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. Are management backing themselves to deliver performance?
