Here's Why We're Wary Of Buying Aidma Marketing Communication's (TSE:9466) For Its Upcoming Dividend

Aidma Marketing Communication Corporation (TSE:9466) is about to trade ex-dividend in the next three days. The ex-dividend date generally occurs two days before the record date, which is the day on which shareholders need to be on the company's books in order to receive a dividend. The ex-dividend date is of consequence because whenever a stock is bought or sold, the trade can take two business days or more to settle. Accordingly, Aidma Marketing Communication investors that purchase the stock on or after the 28th of March will not receive the dividend, which will be paid on the 30th of June.

The company's upcoming dividend is JP¥10.00 a share, following on from the last 12 months, when the company distributed a total of JP¥10.00 per share to shareholders. Based on the last year's worth of payments, Aidma Marketing Communication has a trailing yield of 3.5% on the current stock price of JP¥288.00. Dividends are a major contributor to investment returns for long term holders, but only if the dividend continues to be paid. So we need to check whether the dividend payments are covered, and if earnings are growing.

If a company pays out more in dividends than it earned, then the dividend might become unsustainable - hardly an ideal situation. Have Earnings And Dividends Been Growing?

Companies with falling earnings are riskier for dividend shareholders. If business enters a downturn and the dividend is cut, the company could see its value fall precipitously.
