FINDEX's (TSE:3649) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year

Simply Wall St

FINDEX Inc. (TSE:3649) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 30th of March to ¥9.00. This takes the dividend yield to 2.0%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

FINDEX's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings

Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Before making this announcement, FINDEX was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.

Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 15.7% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 34%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

FINDEX Doesn't Have A Long Payment History

It is great to see that FINDEX has been paying a stable dividend for a number of years now, however we want to be a bit cautious about whether this will remain true through a full economic cycle. Since 2016, the annual payment back then was ¥7.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥18.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 11% a year over that time. It is always nice to see strong dividend growth, but with such a short payment history we wouldn't be inclined to rely on it until a longer track record can be developed.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. We are encouraged to see that FINDEX has grown earnings per share at 38% per year over the past five years. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.

FINDEX Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that FINDEX is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
