Positive Sentiment Still Eludes Inforich Inc. (TSE:9338) Following 26% Share Price Slump
Inforich Inc. (TSE:9338) shareholders that were waiting for something to happen have been dealt a blow with a 26% share price drop in the last month. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 44% share price drop.
Even after such a large drop in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Inforich's price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 13.6x is worth a mention when the median P/E in Japan is similar at about 12x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/E ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.
With earnings growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Inforich has been doing relatively well. One possibility is that the P/E is moderate because investors think this strong earnings performance might be about to tail off. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Is There Some Growth For Inforich?
The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/E like Inforich's is when the company's growth is tracking the market closely.
If we review the last year of earnings growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 255%. However, the latest three year period hasn't been as great in aggregate as it didn't manage to provide any growth at all. So it appears to us that the company has had a mixed result in terms of growing earnings over that time.
Looking ahead now, EPS is anticipated to climb by 26% per annum during the coming three years according to the four analysts following the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 9.7% per year growth forecast for the broader market.
In light of this, it's curious that Inforich's P/E sits in line with the majority of other companies. It may be that most investors aren't convinced the company can achieve future growth expectations.
What We Can Learn From Inforich's P/E?
Following Inforich's share price tumble, its P/E is now hanging on to the median market P/E. We'd say the price-to-earnings ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
We've established that Inforich currently trades on a lower than expected P/E since its forecast growth is higher than the wider market. When we see a strong earnings outlook with faster-than-market growth, we assume potential risks are what might be placing pressure on the P/E ratio. It appears some are indeed anticipating earnings instability, because these conditions should normally provide a boost to the share price.
And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for Inforich you should know about.
