Qol Holdings (TSE:3034) Has Announced A Dividend Of ¥23.00

Qol Holdings Co., Ltd. (TSE:3034) has announced that it will pay a dividend of ¥23.00 per share on the 12th of June. This takes the dividend yield to 1.9%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

Qol Holdings' Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. Prior to this announcement, Qol Holdings' earnings easily covered the dividend, but free cash flows were negative. With the company not bringing in any cash, paying out to shareholders is bound to become difficult at some point.

The next year is set to see EPS grow by 9.2%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 22% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Qol Holdings Has A Solid Track Record

The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ¥20.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥46.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 8.7% a year over that time. The dividend has been growing very nicely for a number of years, and has given its shareholders some nice income in their portfolios.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. We are encouraged to see that Qol Holdings has grown earnings per share at 21% per year over the past five years. A low payout ratio gives the company a lot of flexibility, and growing earnings also make it very easy for it to grow the dividend.

Our Thoughts On Qol Holdings' Dividend

Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Qol Holdings will make a great income stock. While Qol Holdings is earning enough to cover the payments, the cash flows are lacking. This company is not in the top tier of income providing stocks.

Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
