ENSHU Might Find It Hard To Continue The Dividend
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Even in the absence of profits, ENSHU is paying a dividend. The company is also yet to generate cash flow, so the dividend sustainability is definitely questionable.
Recent, EPS has fallen by 54.3%, so this could continue over the next year. This means the company won't be turning a profit, which could place managers in the tough spot of having to choose between suspending the dividend or putting more pressure on the balance sheet.
ENSHU's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
ENSHU has been paying dividends for a while, but the track record isn't stellar. Due to this, we are a little bit cautious about the dividend consistency over a full economic cycle. Since 2019, the annual payment back then was ¥10.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥17.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 9.2% per annum over that time. We like to see dividends have grown at a reasonable rate, but with at least one substantial cut in the payments, we're not certain this dividend stock would be ideal for someone intending to live on the income.
The Dividend Has Limited Growth Potential
Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. ENSHU's earnings per share has shrunk at 54% a year over the past five years. Dividend payments are likely to come under some pressure unless EPS can pull out of the nosedive it is in.
We're Not Big Fans Of ENSHU's Dividend
Overall, the dividend looks like it may have been a bit high, which explains why it has now been cut. The company isn't making enough to be paying as much as it is, and the other factors don't look particularly promising either. Overall, this doesn't get us very excited from an income standpoint.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
