Kajima (TSE:1812) Will Pay A Larger Dividend Than Last Year At ¥76.00

Kajima Corporation's (TSE:1812) dividend will be increasing from last year's payment of the same period to ¥76.00 on 30th of June. Even though the dividend went up, the yield is still quite low at only 2.3%.

Kajima's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. Before making this announcement, Kajima was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 8.5%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 39%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Kajima Has A Solid Track Record

The company has a sustained record of paying dividends with very little fluctuation. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ¥10.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥132.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 29% a year over that time. Rapidly growing dividends for a long time is a very valuable feature for an income stock.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. We are encouraged to see that Kajima has grown earnings per share at 12% per year over the past five years. Growth in EPS bodes well for the dividend, as does the low payout ratio that the company is currently reporting.

Kajima Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company. Companies that are growing earnings tend to be the best dividend stocks over the long term.
