Reply (BIT:REY) Might Become A Compounding Machine

What are the early trends we should look for to identify a stock that could multiply in value over the long term? Amongst other things, we'll want to see two things; firstly, a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an expansion in the company's amount of capital employed. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. Ergo, when we looked at the ROCE trends at Reply (BIT:REY), we liked what we saw.

Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)

For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Reply, this is the formula:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.21 = €315m ÷ (€2.3b - €838m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).

So, Reply has an ROCE of 21%. In absolute terms that's a great return and it's even better than the IT industry average of 17%.

What Can We Tell From Reply's ROCE Trend?

In terms of Reply's history of ROCE, it's quite impressive. The company has consistently earned 21% for the last five years, and the capital employed within the business has risen 108% in that time. With returns that high, it's great that the business can continually reinvest its money at such appealing rates of return. If these trends can continue, it wouldn't surprise us if the company became a multi-bagger.

The Bottom Line On Reply's ROCE

In short, we'd argue Reply has the makings of a multi-bagger since its been able to compound its capital at very profitable rates of return. And the stock has done incredibly well with a 117% return over the last five years, so long term investors are no doubt ecstatic with that result. So while the positive underlying trends may be accounted for by investors, we still think this stock is worth looking into further.

While Reply looks impressive, no company is worth an infinite price. The intrinsic value infographic for REY helps visualize whether it is currently trading for a fair price.

This is important about Oracle. Nvidia went to six of the biggest asset managers on earth to make sure someone else held this risk. Oracle just borrowed the money and held it itself.
