Webuild (BIT:WBD) Is Paying Out A Larger Dividend Than Last Year

The board of Webuild S.p.A. (BIT:WBD) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of €0.081 on the 21st of May, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This takes the annual payment to 2.3% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

Webuild's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings

Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. Based on the last payment, Webuild was quite comfortably earning enough to cover the dividend. This means that a large portion of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 78.8%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 24%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Dividend Volatility

The company has a long dividend track record, but it doesn't look great with cuts in the past. The annual payment during the last 10 years was €0.04 in 2015, and the most recent fiscal year payment was €0.081. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 7.3% over that duration. We have seen cuts in the past, so while the growth looks promising we would be a little bit cautious about its track record.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. It's encouraging to see that Webuild has been growing its earnings per share at 35% a year over the past five years. Webuild is clearly able to grow rapidly while still returning cash to shareholders, positioning it to become a strong dividend payer in the future.

We Really Like Webuild's Dividend

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Webuild is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
