Committed Cargo Care's (NSE:COMMITTED) Solid Profits Have Weak Fundamentals
Committed Cargo Care Limited's (NSE:COMMITTED) robust earnings report didn't manage to move the market for its stock. Our analysis suggests that this might be because shareholders have noticed some concerning underlying factors.
A Closer Look At Committed Cargo Care's Earnings
Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. You could think of the accrual ratio from cashflow as the 'non-FCF profit ratio'.
As a result, a negative accrual ratio is a positive for the company, and a positive accrual ratio is a negative. That is not intended to imply we should worry about a positive accrual ratio, but it's worth noting where the accrual ratio is rather high. To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, "firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future".
Over the twelve months to March 2026, Committed Cargo Care recorded an accrual ratio of 0.47. Statistically speaking, that's a real negative for future earnings. To wit, the company did not generate one whit of free cashflow in that time. Over the last year it actually had negative free cash flow of ₹154m, in contrast to the aforementioned profit of ₹117.0m. We also note that Committed Cargo Care's free cash flow was actually negative last year as well, so we could understand if shareholders were bothered by its outflow of ₹154m.

Our Take On Committed Cargo Care's Profit Performance
As we have made quite clear, we're a bit worried that Committed Cargo Care didn't back up the last year's profit with free cashflow. As a result, we think it may well be the case that Committed Cargo Care's underlying earnings power is lower than its statutory profit. Nonetheless, it's still worth noting that its earnings per share have grown at 26% over the last three years. Of course, we've only just scratched the surface when it comes to analysing its earnings; one could also consider margins, forecast growth, and return on investment, among other factors. So while earnings quality is important, it's equally important to consider the risks facing Committed Cargo Care at this point in time.
