Here's Why I Think M. K. Proteins (NSE:MKPL) Is An Interesting Stock
Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like M. K. Proteins (NSE:MKPL). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Quickly Is M. K. Proteins Increasing Earnings Per Share?
The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. I, for one, am blown away by the fact that M. K. Proteins has grown EPS by 47% per year, over the last three years. That sort of growth never lasts long, but like a shooting star it is well worth watching when it happens.
I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. While we note M. K. Proteins's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 65% to ₹2.5b. That's a real positive.

Since M. K. Proteins is no giant, with a market capitalization of ₹643m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are M. K. Proteins Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So we're pleased to report that M. K. Proteins insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Indeed, with a collective holding of 66%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. Valued at only ₹643m M. K. Proteins is really small for a listed company. That means insiders only have ₹421m worth of shares, despite the large proportional holding. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!
Does M. K. Proteins Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
M. K. Proteins's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So to my mind M. K. Proteins is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. Even so, be aware that M. K. Proteins is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , you should know about...
Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
