It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in STEL Holdings Limited (NSE:STEL).

What Is Insider Selling?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At STEL Holdings

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Harsh Goenka bought ₹8.6m worth of shares at a price of ₹61.32 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of ₹82.60. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Does STEL Holdings Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. We do note, however, it is possible insiders have an indirect interest through a private company or other corporate structure.
