Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like SBFC Finance (NSE:SBFC). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

SBFC Finance's Earnings Per Share Are Growing

If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS) outcomes. So it makes sense that experienced investors pay close attention to company EPS when undertaking investment research. Shareholders will be happy to know that SBFC Finance's EPS has grown 34% each year, compound, over three years. If the company can sustain that sort of growth, we'd expect shareholders to come away satisfied.

Top-line growth is a great indicator that growth is sustainable, and combined with a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin, it's a great way for a company to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. It's noted that SBFC Finance's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort our analysis of its margins. EBIT margins for SBFC Finance remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 45% to ₹6.7b. That's encouraging news for the company!

Are SBFC Finance Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It should give investors a sense of security owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, creating a close alignment their interests. Given insiders own a significant chunk of shares, currently valued at ₹4.4b, they have plenty of motivation to push the business to succeed. This should keep them focused on creating long term value for shareholders.

Is SBFC Finance Worth Keeping An Eye On?
