The Centrum Capital Limited (NSE:CENTRUM) share price has had a bad week, falling 12%. While that might be a setback, it doesn't negate the nice returns received over the last twelve months. To wit, it had solidly beat the market, up 95%.

While the stock has fallen 12% this week, it's worth focusing on the longer term and seeing if the stocks historical returns have been driven by the underlying fundamentals.

Because Centrum Capital made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

Centrum Capital grew its revenue by 64% last year. That's stonking growth even when compared to other loss-making stocks. While the share price gain of 95% over twelve months is pretty tasty, you might argue it doesn't fully reflect the strong revenue growth. So quite frankly it could be a good time to investigate Centrum Capital in some detail. Human beings have trouble conceptualizing (and valuing) exponential growth. Is that what we're seeing here?

A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that Centrum Capital shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 95% over the last year. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 5% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Centrum Capital better, we need to consider many other factors.
