For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Parin Furniture (NSE:PARIN). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

How Fast Is Parin Furniture Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So EPS growth can certainly encourage an investor to take note of a stock. Like a falcon taking flight, Parin Furniture's EPS soared from ₹3.85 to ₹4.81, over the last year. That's a impressive gain of 25%.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. While we note Parin Furniture's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 20% to ₹827m. That's a real positive.

Since Parin Furniture is no giant, with a market capitalization of ₹667m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.

Are Parin Furniture Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Parin Furniture insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 76% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. Of course, Parin Furniture is a very small company, with a market cap of only ₹667m. So despite a large proportional holding, insiders only have ₹510m worth of stock. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!

Is Parin Furniture Worth Keeping An Eye On?

You can't deny that Parin Furniture has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. I think that EPS growth is something to boast of, and it doesn't surprise me that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. So this is very likely the kind of business that I like to spend time researching, with a view to discerning its true value. Even so, be aware that Parin Furniture is showing 4 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 3 of those make us uncomfortable...
