Do Bang Overseas's (NSE:BANG) Earnings Warrant Your Attention?

Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Bang Overseas (NSE:BANG). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

Bang Overseas's Improving Profits

In a capitalist society capital chases profits, and that means share prices tend rise with earnings per share (EPS). So like a ray of sunshine through a gap in the clouds, improving EPS is considered a good sign. It is therefore awe-striking that Bang Overseas's EPS went from ₹1.03 to ₹3.64 in just one year. Even though that growth rate is unlikely to be repeated, that looks like a breakout improvement. Could this be a sign that the business has reached an inflection point?

I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). The good news is that Bang Overseas is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 6.2 percentage points to 7.0%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

Since Bang Overseas is no giant, with a market capitalization of ₹518m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.

Are Bang Overseas Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Bang Overseas insiders own a meaningful share of the business. In fact, they own 75% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. Of course, Bang Overseas is a very small company, with a market cap of only ₹518m. So despite a large proportional holding, insiders only have ₹390m worth of stock. That's not a huge stake in absolute terms, but it should help keep insiders aligned with other shareholders.

Does Bang Overseas Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

Bang Overseas's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Bang Overseas for a spot on your watchlist. Even so, be aware that Bang Overseas is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those makes us a bit uncomfortable...

Although Bang Overseas certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
