Tadiran Group's (TLV:TDRN) Sluggish Earnings Might Be Just The Beginning Of Its Problems
Last week's earnings announcement from Tadiran Group Ltd (TLV:TDRN) was disappointing to investors, with a sluggish profit figure. We did some further digging and think they have a few more reasons to be concerned beyond the statutory profit.
The Impact Of Unusual Items On Profit
Importantly, our data indicates that Tadiran Group's profit received a boost of ₪37m in unusual items, over the last year. We can't deny that higher profits generally leave us optimistic, but we'd prefer it if the profit were to be sustainable. When we analysed the vast majority of listed companies worldwide, we found that significant unusual items are often not repeated. Which is hardly surprising, given the name. Tadiran Group had a rather significant contribution from unusual items relative to its profit to December 2024. All else being equal, this would likely have the effect of making the statutory profit a poor guide to underlying earnings power.

Our Take On Tadiran Group's Profit Performance
As we discussed above, we think the significant positive unusual item makes Tadiran Group's earnings a poor guide to its underlying profitability. As a result, we think it may well be the case that Tadiran Group's underlying earnings power is lower than its statutory profit. In further bad news, its earnings per share decreased in the last year. Of course, we've only just scratched the surface when it comes to analysing its earnings; one could also consider margins, forecast growth, and return on investment, among other factors. So while earnings quality is important, it's equally important to consider the risks facing Tadiran Group at this point in time.
